Legend Quest – Galway City Legends

Legend is both a powerful and magical word and can be defined within the English language as: A traditional story handed down from earlier times whose truth has yet to be ascertained. In other words, legend is not fiction, but a story which has yet to be confirmed by science, archaeology or historical argument.

Hidden beneath the surface of Galway’s Old medieval town are many strange and unique legends waiting to be uncovered by the modern explorer. Our Quest begins with Galway’s most famous story, the legend of the mayor who hanged his own son, followed by the legend surrounding the famous Kings Head Pub. There is the weird story of a missing hand stolen from the tomb & the many legends of the Knights Templar, Freemasons & apprentice pillar.
